Improvements in Willingham

Posted: 22 June 2022

undefinedWork is starting on an essential project in Willingham

The scheme will see the renewal of existing water mains in Willingham, with over 1,150 metres of new, high-performance water pipe.

Where and when?

The works will begin at the Long Lane junction of Berrycroft on 25 July 2022, before progressing onto the following locations:

  • Newington (Traffic lights only )
  • Long Lane
  • Mill Road
  • Berrycroft
  • Balland Field
  • Elm Way
  • High Street
  • Over Road
  • Willingham Road, Willingham
  • Willingham Road, Over

Majority of the works will take place between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm, but some night-time work will be required to minimise traffic disruption. Where night-time work is required, prior notice will be provided in advance of the works taking place.

How will the work be carried out?

In total, 1,158m of new, high-performance water mains will be installed using a number of methods, including directional drill (where the new main will be installed underground, between two excavations, using a drilling machine), slipline (where we pull a new main through the existing one) and open cut (where we dig a trench).

Will traffic be affected?

In order to complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible, traffic management will be in place. Two-way, three-way or four-way traffic lights will be used throughout the scheme, according to the location that we will be working. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.

Will this affect my water supply?

We may need to turn off your water supply for a short period of time. If we do need to shut off your supply, we will provide as much notice as possible.

These works will improve the quality and reliability of your water supply. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.

Our investment programme

This scheme is part of our commitment to invest in new water mains, to reduce leakage by at least 15% and to ensure our customers continue to receive a reliable and high-quality water supply.
